I like Finder's writing and find the characters real. Now Roger has disappeared. His brother has vanished. I have read all his novels and always look forward to the next. First time I have ever read anything from this author,
It was OK, but, for me, somewhat formulaic. This was a solid action thriller with a new ongoing character, Nick Heller, who has potential. Vanished by Joseph Finder is absolutely terrific for the first 9/10th of the book. Although it took some time to develop pace because of that, it grew in intensity. Vanished is contrived and conceived, I think on a white board like so many TV shows. He introduced “private spy” Nick Heller in VANISHED, an instant bestseller, and the continuing series includes BURIED SECRETS, GUILTY MINDS and HOUSE ON FIRE. Some were great, some so- so, but they always have a nice page-turning quality. Vanished is the murder, crime, mystery, thriller, literature and suspense novel that accounts for the story of an intelligent private investigator. The plot was interesting but the characters were weak and Nick Heller was not as cool/smooth or witty as Finder was trying to portray him to be. Sometimes I get a good one that compels me to give it 5 stars and some only 3 or 4. To say I am a fan is an understatement. So, if you wish, click off here, thinking I am a homer, see you tomorrow, maybe. On the plus side, the book is an easy read, it held my interest in the story, had some clever twists and good characters. The new series features a Jack Bauer / Jack Ryan type of superhero, called Nick Heller. Looking forward to reading more about Nick Heller!! I don’t like male narrators with higher pitched voices. Nick Heller is a nice-enough hero, although the character could be more developed (and is more developed in the second novel in the series). I needed something to read on an airplane, and found the second book in this series -- Buried Secrets -- and thought it was really well done. Read this and rushed out to buy the next two in the series. Finder introduces Nick Heller, an elite corporate intelligence specialist and former Special Services extraordinaire! The vanished person premise for a plot is a little shopworn, but the author makes it work pretty well in this story about intrigue in the financial sector featuring a "Jack Reacher-lite" protagonist. I read a review that encouraged me to read it; a new series by a thriller master. The problem with VANISHED is that it never feels real and the main characters don’t quite make it to life.
Hard to keep from comparing Nick Heller to other thriller characters. This was a solid action thriller with a new ongoing character, Nick Heller, who has potential. Audible is $14.95/month after 30 days. To say I am a fan is an understatement. Nick Heller is tough, smart, and stubborn. It's detailed private detective-type work, the plots are of interest, and the characters drawn out decently. I am more covert ops etc. Overall a disappointment but this author has a writing style I really love and I will continue looking at his books. This is a book about greed, scandal, politics, family, deceit, and money. The new series features a Jack Bauer / Jack Ryan type of superhero, called Nick Heller. However, the resolution was ridiculously contrived, totally unbelievable and frankly destroyed the entire effect of the book on me. By completing your purchase, you agree to Audible’s The story revolves around the brother of the hero who is the “vanished” of the title. So, if you wish, click off here, thinking I am a homer, see you tomorrow, maybe. I keep saying I don't generally read this sort of book and now I know why. Great character, couldn't put it down and cant wait to read the next follow up storyReviewed in the United Kingdom on September 19, 2015 Some wear on the edges of the outer jacket. Amazing and full of all the necessary requirements to keep me entertained. After being attacked in Georgetown, his mother lies in a coma, and his step-dad, Roger, Nick's brother, has vanished without a trace. However, the resolution was ridiculously contrived, totally unbelievable and frankly destroyed the entire effect of the book on me. Sister in law ecch. Nick Heller and Roger Heller are the prominent characters of …
Overall, the book is well paced and an interesting read. I had some of the story figured out but there are always twists and turns and that is what makes a good writer. In his new book, Mr. Reviewed in the United Kingdom on December 26, 2015 The story revolves around the assault of Lauren Heller and the disappearance of her husband Roger. Paranoid was original and fast moving with a hero I could relate to. I thought that the events towards the very end of the book were a bit of a letdown and that there were a few plot threads that were never resolved (perhaps that will happen in subsequent entries in this series). Published I didn’t care for the narrator. As they are walking out of the restaurant, Roger forgets his wallet. His sister-in-law brutally attacked. It was OK, but, for me, somewhat formulaic. Switch between reading the Kindle book & listening to the Audible narration with I typically like the writing of Michael Connelly (for his storylines and overall realism).
