Garmin Pilot vs Foreflight . By Dave Hirschman.
Which do you use and why. I decided to learn while in the air, honestly everything is exactly where I thought it should be and it was easy to usebiggest complaint I have about Garmin pilot is no support for Stratux. Personally I prefer Garmin.I did Ifly today and I think I'm a fan of it.
The iPad was WiFi only, so needed an external GPS for moving map and ADS-B device for weather etc.
If I were Garmin, I would get out of this business as they've clearly given it over to Foreflight (Boeing). Curious to know peoples' opinions on these two apps if you have used both. ForeFlight iOS vs Garmin Pilot Android. I just worry I would get some tough copilot that would turn me in for using non approved software. How do you switch the GP charts to look like a sectional?Oh shit!
Also FltPlan Go. I like Pilot, it does what I need it to do and it works. I think that third-party stuff is a bit friendlier to ForeFlight because the market is larger (you can usually easily export a flight plan on a website to FF), but that doesn't really bother me.The only major thing I've seen that Garmin doesn't do is let you load an approach into your flight plan.
Garmin Pilot puts full-featured navigation — including our decades of experience with rich, interactive mapping, 3D Vision, aviation weather, global flight plan filing, electronic flight bag capabilities, optional traffic/weather, pilot logbook and more — right at your fingertips. Hi all, My renewal has come up for Foreflight and I have not checked out Garmin Pilot since my free trial expired a couple of years ago. If you happen to be committed to Garmin then awesome. Also, I feel like people who created GP were thinking how would pilot use some feature in flight and they made almost all information I may need accessible in couple taps.
Jepp sucks so bad. Split screen is a killing feature for me.
Compatible with Garmin Pilot, Garmin GPSs, ForeFlight, FltPlan Go . Price 150/yr for all features.Foreflight: better weather products, graphical briefing is great.
iPads are great and Foreflight in the bomb, but I also use my iPad for work and I really don't wanna find out that some weird iOS update to add Emojis is now causing my GPS altitude to report 300 feet off.On the iFLY I also have the little USB ping buddy ADSB-IN and it works fantastic.Look at my blog post here and you can see how I mounted my iFly with pictures. After seeing the difference in performance between ifly on a tablet vs the dedicated hardware I would take the tablet any day. I know there are other apps out there, but I'm only considering these two. These types of threads are all around the web, but many of them are older and these apps evolve often (FF getting Jeppesen integration being one example).Would love to hear from people that have tried both and why they chose one over the other in recent time!I only use GP because I'm an Android guy and I have a free subscription for a while. Price 300/yr for all feature. The “all” features price comparison is a bit misleading since the feature set is so different.I have been using iFly for a couple of years on my Samsung S6 Edge +, synching it up to my wife's phone as a backup when we fly together. Otherwise I'll probably be buying an iPad and FF with Stratux myself (but not for a while.. still gotta use those charts and plotter)I’ve done all 3 (JeppFD-Pro, GP and FF) and out of them I prefer Garmin pilot. My renewal for Foreflight is in the next few days, but Im debating on whether to continue using it or if I should give Garmin Pilot a try for the next year. ForeFlight Mobile connects to Garmin avionics via the Flight Stream 110 and 210, Garmin’s Bluetooth wireless gateway, enabling convenient two-way flight plan transfer, and the display of subscription-free ADS-B weather, traffic, backup attitude, and GPS position on your iPad and iPhone.

My friend had his ever faithful iPad with the ForeFlight app.
In addition the subscription is $50 cheaper comparing to ForeFlight Pro for pretty much the same amount of features. They both cost money upfront.
Foreflight: better weather products, graphical briefing is great. I sounds like heresy, but it’s true and I’ll say it out loud: I like Garmin Pilot better than ForeFlight. I have no experience with Foreflight to compare Pilot against, so take my opinion for what it is worth.Do a trial of all three and use whatever suits you. Im curious to know if anyone has an opinion and current experience with the latest versions of Forefight and Garmin Pilot.
A Garmin guy. The mere presence of the familiar symbols on the Garmin Pilot … I think GP has weight and balance for iPad (and I've heard it's a little nicer overall).Downside to GP is limited GPS devices.
