His jokes about his jeans nearly giving him a vasectomy felt natural and comfortable — much moreso than his pants, no doubt. I've been a Star Trek fan from the beginning (1968 ish?)

I wasn't sure quite what to expect with this series - I keep remembering that bloody bird that can't fly! Please try againSorry, we failed to record your vote. Even though it's obviously based on Star Trek, it does not "take the Mickey" in a cruel way, a gentle mocking perhaps, but nothing to offend Star Trek fans from my point of view.

It’s like Kelly said; they’re trying to be inconspicuous. Heavy handed social commentary drag this week’s episode of The Orville down, but some bright spots linger to give us hope. And let’s be clear, Lamarr started out with points in his favor in the Master Feed of audience opinion. Episode 7 of ‘The Orville’ airs this Thursday at 9:00 PM on Fox. Of course, Alara would probably have handled the apology tour a little better, and much of the comedy of the episode came from John’s complete lack of understanding about how to sway the talk show audiences.

They not only spoil key moments in the episodes they give the impression that this series is about comedy. But I'm really enjoying it. With no commentary before or after, Bortus notices one of the talk show hosts drinking from an oversized mug, and while everyone else worries about John’s performance, the Moclan wonders aloud, “Who would need such a large cup?” Even better was his hilariously serious agreement with the Captain’s idea that they should have pretzels for when they have guests on the ship: “I will not fail you.” Those chuckles went along way towards reminding viewers of better episodes of yore. The other successful element that got short shrift was the use of Lisella, the waitress who was brought in on the secret of the existence of alien life outside of Sargus-4. The series is still finding its feet in the first series but it's a strong start and has me wanting more. My only complaint is with the ship design - according to my calculations, when the third engine engages, the whole thing should spin around like a catherine wheel! This series is actually a phenomenal addition to television.
