After extensive conservation, the Property re-opened in 2011, and programs are being developed to encourage young people to get involved with the castle and its history. The guide (we were told later was fairly new to this job) was very good and really seemed to enjoy his work.

Craigievar castle is an iconic tower house it’s one of the best preserved castles in Scotland, the castle is styled in the Baronial style in 1576 and was finally completed in 1626. Friendly and enjoyable there is no way you would be able to guess that it was the last one of the day and that he had repeated it so many times that to be perfectly honest he must have been sick of repeating the same speech. Craigievar Castle stands on the west side of a valley in the beautiful rolling countryside that forms the eastern foothills of the Cairngorms, some six miles south of Alford in Aberdeenshire.
