[awkward silence]  But along with Carol Danvers's very fuzzy new sidekick, Goose, the film introduces us to Maria Rambeau, played by the brilliant Lashana Lynch, who is Carol's best friend and former copilot. And you're going to give it up … [Fury looks at Goose]  Maria Rambeau is a Marvel Super Heroes minifigure that appears in a 2019 San Diego Comic-Con International exclusive set. You were the woman on that black box risking her life to do the right thing. [Fury laughs while Goose meows loudly]  You were smart, and funny, and a huge pain in the ass. She was a successful seamstress and wife of retired fireman Frank Rambeau, whom she met while in the U.S. Military. She became best friends with Carol Danvers, who was presumed dead for six years, after a plane accident. Monica Rambeau is a fictional character and superhero appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics.Created by writer Roger Stern and artist John Romita Jr., the character debuted in The Amazing Spider-Man Annual #16 (October 1982).

[Carol nods]  Captain Maria Rambeau is a former United States Air Force pilot and a single mother of Monica Rambeau. She aided her, Nick Fury, and Talos in finding Mar-Vell's Laboratory and a group of Skrull refugees.

[Carol opens the lunch box, revealing the Tesseract while Fury removes Goose's muzzle]  Maria Rambeau : Monica.

Maria’s plane has a call sign on it that references a major piece of her Marvel history. As you can see, the words “Maria ‘Photon’ Rambeau” are on the side of her jet. This seems to be a direct nod to Photon, the alias that her daughter Monica Rambeau goes by in the comics.
