I only finished because it was a story chosen by my book club. Let us know what’s wrong with this preview of
Who killed Hugo Fletcher. My own writing has been driven by characters but has lacked something. I can see by the majority of reviews I am in the minority with this one and I’m sorry but if it was meant to be a murder mystery I’m afraid the mystery was depleted by its glaring predictability. We become drawn into the police investigation and get insight into Helen and her life with Hugo. The readers of Only tOnly the Innocent is the first book in the new series called DCI Tom Douglas by Rachel Abbott. The writer has some skill but the story is appalling - contrived, ridiculous characters, a useless detective who only ever finds out anything by conveniently overhearing the suspects' conversations. My friend recommended this to me as a solution to my Gone Girl addiction. I was fortunate enough to sell my company in 2000 and we moved to Italy where we bought and restored an old country house.“The quiet but inexorable breaking down of self-esteem is much more sinister - it’s violation of the soul.”“She searched her mind for a single day when it had felt good to be alive. 1611097843 I'm usually not comfortable writing bad reviews but this book was so bad that I'm forging ahead. I quite enjoyed it.I was born and brought up in the north of England, and worked for many years as the managing director of an interactive media company. Now, she's a New Orleans PI, determined to get answers for clients and maybe herself. What will one woman sacrifice to save the lives of people she doesn't even know?He brought the mob to justice. If I had started with this one, I don't think I would have bothered with the second.
The murdered man, Sir Hugo who was killed in the novel's preface, was so vile and evil that killing him was appropriate and just.
To some extent, Only the Innocent delivers.
At the heart of it, Only The Innocent has a really promising story of prostitution, human trafficking, sexual and domestic abuse to tell, but the execution was disappointing.
Some promotions may be combined; others are not eligible to be combined with other offers. What a waste of time and money. You will get much more than your money's worth.
I hate posting negative reviews but feel compelled in this case :(I can see I'm in the minority with my review, so apologies to Rachel Abbot, and her fans of the book and series. Please try againSorry, we failed to record your vote.
I also wanted to know more about the background of the wonderful and gorgeous, DCI Tom Douglas who I really like, and his sergeant, Becky Robinson.Only the Innocent is the first book in the new series called DCI Tom Douglas by Rachel Abbott. Sir Hugo Fletcher is found murdered in his home and tied to the bed in such a way that it is obvious to the police that sex games were involved which leaves them convinced that the perpetrator of the crime must be a woman. I quite enjoyed Back Road and so decided to read Only the Innocent ...a total disappointment. The murderer was obvious. Kill Me Again: The gripping psychological thriller with a shocking twist (Tom Douglas Thrillers Book 5) The author has a great reputation and a strong following. I decided to learn what made her so readable. As the book develops we begin to see what a dangerous and destructive character Sir Hugo really was. DCI Tom Douglas first case was the death of Sir Hugo Fletcher.
I have also collected 5 of her books over the years through Amazon sales. If I had started with this one, I don't think I would ever have bothered with The Back Road.Excellent characterization combine with multilayered plot! Try it and make up your own mind.
I cannot wait to get to number two in the series. Please try againSorry, we failed to record your vote. The Invitation: An absolutely gripping psychological thriller with a killer twist I don't think Laura tried hard enough to expose Hugo; didn't find that believable. A great read for sure and my first by this author which I'm glad about as I know the others follow on with Tom so I'm glad to read them in order and I definitely will. I liked the way the author took us back in time but through the use of letters, written from the heart but not posted and you find out the reasons as to why Laura, the main character, finds herself in this awful situation, with no way out.

The only emotion this stirred in me was when Laura, the main character, puts up with so much sick and disgusting behaviour, from her husband that I really wanted to punch her myself.
A rich charity worker is murdered by a women with red hair. Please try your request again later. Rachel Abbott has written an incredible story with many layers of mystery.
)What this book is really about is the why.
My favourite thing about this novel was the storytelling - Ms Abbott gives you information in small doses whilst all the time filling out the personalities of her characters until you understand their actions and reasoning.
The cover and blurb promise an edgy thriller, and there’s no doubt that all those elements are there – sex, abuse, murder.
Contrary to other reviews I have read, I loved this book! Welcome back.
